ABOUT SILVIA
I am currently a Research Associate at the University of Oxford, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, GA Wainwright Early Career Fellow in Near Eastern Archaeology. My primary focus is in the field of pre-Islamic Arabian archaeology, with a particular emphasis on the southwestern region of the peninsula, encompassing Oman, Yemen and southwestern Saudi Arabia. To broaden my scope for a comprehensive understanding of cultural relations with neighbouring areas and cultural processes within the peninsula, I have taken on the role of field director in Jordan and northern Oman.
As Director of the DHOMIAP project (Dhofar, Oman), I oversee some archaeological programmes such as DHOFARMAP, Inqitat Archaeological Programme, HELFA and Beyond Sumhuram. In collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman and the Museum of Frankincense Land of Salalah, these initiatives aim to explore various aspects of archaeological research. For further details of the project or its specific programmes, please visit the project website using the link provided.
My expertise includes landscape studies, remote sensing analysis, material culture studies and archaeological data analysis. I have a wealth of experience in conservation science and the application of new technologies to the analytical study of archaeological materials. I also have technical skills in the use of open data for archaeological purposes, as well as expertise in multimedia communication and social media strategy.
